Dental Crowns FAQ's
In Lansing, Ann Arbor and Brighton, Michigan
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are prosthetic caps or covers for your teeth that are applied by our expert cosmetic dentists.
What dental conditions are dental crowns used for?
Since crowns cover the entire tooth surface, they can be used to fix numerous cosmetic problems, including chipped, discolored, or worn teeth. We have used dental crowns to give many of our patients in the Lansing area full dental makeovers.
What are crowns made of?
They can be made of gold, porcelain, or a porcelain metal mix. Although many people choose to have a porcelain crown placed because of the resemblance to natural tooth color, gold tooth crowns can be very good restorations as well. Gold crowns allow the dentist to make a very precise fit. Also, because of the way gold wears, it will not excessively wear down opposing teeth.
What is the process for applying crowns to teeth?
First the affected teeth are slightly cut down by our cosmetic dentists. Then, a mold of your teeth is taken that the dental lab uses it to create the prosthetic. When the prosthetic is complete, it is tested to ensure it fits appropriately before being attached to your tooth with dental cement.
How many appointments will it take to have crowns installed?
It generally takes two to three visits to our Howell office.
